Palace Resorts recently opened state-of-the-art Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf facilities at three of its properties in greater Cancun, Mexico. Each location features Nicklaus Academy professional instructors that have been trained by Mike Malaska, Director of Instruction at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club and recipient of this year’s PGA Teacher of the Year Award, as to the proven Nicklaus philosophy and system.
Moon Palace Spa & Golf Resort, home to 27 holes of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf, features a special indoor Jack Nicklaus Coaching Studio that incorporates a fully integrated Nicklaus Academy analysis package of high-speed video, pressure/balance mat and launch monitor with the addition of a full golf simulator. The Coaching Studio is fully self-contained inside the Moon Palace clubhouse / pro shop and also features a TOMI putting lab. The Moon Palace Nicklaus Academy will accommodate private instruction, club fitting as well as an indoor golf experience with the full simulator.
The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Riviera Cancun and the Playacar Golf Club located in Playa de Carmen both feature indoor Nicklaus Coaching Studios as well by capturing video from two views for analysis in the Nicklaus Academy analysis software. The unique indoor locations at each of the properties provide year round instruction regardless of the weather or lighting conditions.
Each facility also feature expansive outdoor driving ranges with both natural and artificial turf tee-lines and well-designed short game areas that are ideal for private and group instruction programs.
Palace Resorts has implemented a new and innovative instruction offering to attract resort guests that are new to the game or want to fine-tune certain aspects of their overall game. “Welcome to Golf” is a 2-hour group clinic that introduces “never-evers” to the game of golf in a fun and non-intimidating manor. The basic fundamentals that are the basis for the Nicklaus Philosophy are taught to each participant in an effective 4:1 student to teacher ratio. The “Short Game & Scoring Clinic” is another 2-hour group clinic that focuses the students’ attention on shots hit from 100 yards and in. From proper impact and alignment to distance control, accuracy and proper club selection, the instructors work with the students to shave strokes off their score. The “Nicklaus Driving School” rounds out the group offering by focusing on getting the most of the students’ ability off the tee. Distance, accuracy and consistency are improved, as well as a better understanding of how to properly deliver the clubhead efficiently to the ball.
Palace Resort guests can apply a portion their Resort Credit toward the above three group instruction offerings. Additional instruction options including private sessions, on-course playing lessons, corporate group and clinics, special junior camps and custom club fittings are available as well for a fee to both Palace guests as well as students from other properties and local residents.
