Course Overview

Golf at Superstition Mountain is more than just a game – it is a captivating experience. Nestled along the edge of the legendary Superstition Mountains. Lost Gold and Prospector are two championship golf courses, each with its own unique personality and its own promise for an individual challenging golf experience. At an elevation of 2,000 feet, both courses are desert courses and feature native areas and natural dry riverbeds.

The Prospector Course is reminiscent of the Ol’ Dutchman, Jacob Waltz, a prospector who mined gold in the early 1880s, struck it rich, and hid it in the Superstition Mountains. Legend has it that this “lost gold” is still in the area, hence the name of the second course.

Prospector, created by Jack and Gary Nicklaus, was the first course to open in this 870-arce master planned community. This 18-hole classic layout is surrounded by extraordinary views of Superstition Mountain. The par-3, fourth hole offers up one of these spectacular views.

One of the most challenging and striking features of the 7,185-yard Prospector course is an oasis-like water feature that extends the length of the 18th hole. A magnificent finishing-hole with the Superstition Mountains at your back accentuating the Clubhouse with an amphitheater setting.

Lost Gold, created by Jack and Jackie Nicklaus, is a links-styled course that presents a different set of challenges for golfers than the Prospector. It completes the legendary Superstition Mountain trail while weaving through magnificent desert terrain explored centuries ago by conquistadors in search of the Cities of Cibola.

This 18-hole desert layout plays a challenging 7,351-yards. Natural dry-wash beds and sculpted bunkers frame panoramic mountain views from greens and fairways built for year-round playability.

The front nine is laid out in several parallel fairways separated by moderately bunkered corridors. The ninth, the shortest par-4 on the course at 392-yards from the championship tees, is also one of the more exciting holes to play.

The back nine opens out into the desert where the view of Superstition Mountain even more commanding, particularly at the 14th, a par-5 guarded by a dry wash down the right side of the fairway. Lost Gold finishes with the only water hazard on the course. Jutting into play near the front of the green the lake is more of a tease than a serious threat.
