Course Overview

Jack Nicklaus has long been associated with golfing excellence, from his legendary achievements as a player to his world-renowned course designs. As such, the Pearl Valley Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course was developed with the vision of being one of most prestigious courses in South Africa.

Since officially being opened in November 2003 by Jack Nicklaus and his good friend and South African-native Gary Player, Pearl Valley has been the proud host of the South African Open for three consecutive years from 2007 to 2009.

The conceptualization of the course was profoundly influenced by the natural beauty of the surrounding Paarl-Franschhoek Valley. In appreciation of the region, Nicklaus chose to incorporate as much of the natural landscape as possible, creating a course that both complements its beautiful surroundings and provides a challenging test.

“The valley, surrounded by breathtaking mountains, is one of the most inspiring settings I have ever had the pleasure of designing a course in,” Nicklaus said.

Ensuring that Pearl Valley’s course was playable for golfers of all levels was a priority for Nicklaus. Mindful of the fact that only 2 percent of golfers play from the back tees, he designed from the front and the course reflects his preference for a game that starts out simply and eases players in.

Since opening, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Pearl Valley has seen abundant success – receiving the Compleat Golfer Five Star Experience Award for the last six consecutive years and being named Golf Digest’s Best Conditioned Golf Course in the Western Cape for five years running. The championship course has also ranked within Golf Digest’s top-10 courses in South Africa for the last 10 years.

Having received excellent recognition locally and as part of Val de Vie Estate, Pearl Valley aims to become celebrated as one of the top golfing establishments in the world.
