Construction is underway for what will soon be one of North America’s most sought-after destinations
Construction is well underway on the new 18-hole JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE GOLF COURSE at the exclusive Quivira residential development in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Located at the very tip of the Baja peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez, the Quivira Golf Club enjoys a unique setting, where large dunes, expansive sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, narrow canyons and the beautiful Sonoran desert-style vegetation conspire to deliver an unforgettable golf experience. With seven holes that will play to or along the ocean, Quivira Los Cabos is expected to have the most oceanfront play of any course in Los Cabos.
The developer, Ernesto Coppel Kelly, owner and founder of Pueblo Bonito Hotels and Resorts, recently celebrated the signing of a loan agreement with Bancomex (Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior), making the next step in the realization of Quivira Golf Club possible. A recent event celebrating the signing included a number of distinguished guests, such as Mr. Marco Covarrubias, Governor of Baja California Sur; Mr. Rubén Reachi, State Secretary of Tourism; Jacobo Turquíe, Municipal Director of Tourism; Congressman Ernesto Ibarra; and Ernesto Coppel, owner and developer of Quivira and Pueblo Bonito. Other notable guests: Paco Bulnes, owner of the Solmar/Playa Grande developments; Federico Vaughn of Grupo Questro; and Ricardo Montaudon, President of RCI Latin America. Bancomex representatives included Mr. Héctor Rangel, CEO; Mr. Anthony McCarthy, Executive VP; María del Carmen Arreola, Executive VP of Finance; and Gerardo Corona, Senior VP of Tourism.
At the event, Coppel Kelly, who is affectionately known as “Neto,” emphasized the prominence that this investment brings to the area, especially to the Todos Santos corridor of Cabo San Lucas. He said the project will bring over $300 million in new investments to the area and create hundreds of permanent jobs.
Mr. Rangel spoke briefly at the event and recognized Pueblo Bonito’s long-standing success record. He mentioned how proud he was as CEO of Bancomex to see the company’s mission once again fulfilled by supporting core investments, which, in turn, will generate even more investment.
Governor Covarrubias also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Coppel and others in attendance for their investments in enhancing Los Cabos’ reputation as a world-class tourist destination. He emphasized that “Baja California Sur and Los Cabos is a wonderful place to invest and to live in.”
Diamond Golf International is responsible for construction of the JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE GOLF COURSE. Diamond Golf owner Salvador Rodriguez has been involved in a number of award-winning Nicklaus Design courses throughout Mexico, but even he recognized the uniqueness and potential of the Quivira layout. ”There truly won’t be a golf course like this in Cabo or anywhere else, for that matter,” Rodriguez said, adding that Quivira will be his company’s 300th completed golf course, and its 11th in the Los Cabos market.
