Wynstone: Ryder Cup puts focus on Chicago-area golf and Golden Bear’s creation

All golf eyes are zeroed in on Chicago as nearby Medinah Country Club hosts the game’s best competitors from the United States and Europe for the 39th edition of the Ryder Cup. Rich with history, Medinah is one of more than 100 golf courses located in the Windy City’s metro area. Another of those is Wynstone Golf Club, the only Chicago-area design by Jack Nicklaus.

Wynstone Golf Club features a spectacular Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course that opened for play in 1989 in North Barrington, Ill. about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. Jack Nicklaus crafted the breathtakingly beautiful and challenging golf course among the rolling hills and wetlands of the area.

His vision and respect for the topography generated a championship golf course that was immediately recognized among Golf Digest’s top-100 golf courses in America. The course offers 7,003 yards of golf in a beautiful, natural setting amidst rolling terrain, mature trees, lakes and streams. Nicklaus’ skillful use of elevated greens, deep greenside bunkers and strategically placed water features provides an exceptional golf experience.

Wynstone Golf Club is easily accessible via the Kennedy Expressway to Illinois Highway 53 North. Exit at Lake Cook Road west to Rand Road. Take Rand Road north one-half mile past Miller Road to the club entrance. For more information on the club, please visit wynstone.org.

Nicklaus Design is widely regarded as the world’s leading golf course design firm. With courses in 39 states and 36 countries, Nicklaus Design has been a leader in design for more than 40 years. Coyote Creek in Peoria, and Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights, round out the other two Nicklaus Design courses in Illinois.
