First Nicklaus Design course opens in Panama, spreading company’s worldwide reach to 35 countries

Panama has now been added to Nicklaus Design’s burgeoning portfolio of global golf destinations, after Buenaventura Golf Club, the first Nicklaus Design course in the country, opened last month as part of a Pacific Coast beach community near Panama City. There are now 35 countries worldwide in which Nicklaus Design is represented.

The latest addition is Panama and Buenaventura Golf Club—the centerpiece amenity to a community that includes both beachfront and lakefront housing, plus the Bristol Buenaventura resort hotel. Located about 80 minutes outside of Panama City, the Bristol Buenaventura resort includes 122 guestrooms, some with lagoon and ocean views.

The golf course measures 7,324 yards from the back tees but will take advantage of multiple tees to provide an opportunity for varying skill levels and to further the collective mission to the grow the game in this emerging golf destination. One of the unique aspects of this golf course is the choice of Paspalum Platinum grass, a warm season turfgrass known for its brilliant dark green color, salt tolerance, shade tolerance, disease tolerance, and its recovery from injury.

“Buenaventura Golf Club is a beautiful facility located in an extremely unique and desirable destination,” said John Easterbrook, executive vice president for Troon, the global firm which is managing the golf facility. “We are very pleased to be involved in the project and look forward to delivering an exceptional golf experience to members and visitors at the club.”
