Nicklaus Design recognized at Asian Golf Monthly Awards

The ‘2011 Asian Golf Monthly Awards’ were held recently as part of the 5th edition of the Asia Pacific Golf Summit and the highlight of the week-long gathering in Pattaya, Thailand. And again, Nicklaus Design played a prominent role in the results.

The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Brunei, anchored by a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, repeated as the Best Golf Resort in Asia Pacific. Nicklaus Design was runner-up for Best Golf Course Architect in Asia Pacific, and was awarded the Nos. 1 and 3 spots in voting for the Best Course in Korea, with the Ocean Course at Sky 72 repeating in the top spot and the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea debuting at third.

The Mountain Course at Spring City was runner-up in the Best of China survey, as was the Masters Course at Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club in The Philippines.

The results of the awards were based on online votes of readers of Asian Golf Monthly, and for the first time, a 24-strong panel of industry players located around the region with vast knowledge of the golfing facilities were pulled in with their combined input accounting for 25% of the overall voting.

In recognition of his achievements and constant support of the golf world, Tony Jacklin received an Asia Pacific Lifetime Achievement Award. Tennis legend Jimmy Connors was also presented with the Asia Pacific Excellence in Sports Award, and South African star Gary Player was featured on a video feed making an acceptance speech after being inducted into the Asia Pacific Golf Hall of Fame. Jack Nicklaus was inducted in the inaugural class in 2010, and became the first American named to the Hall.
