LINKS Magazine took on a tall task by narrowing more than 30,000 golf courses around the world into a list of the 10 Most Spectacular. But they did it, and Jack Nicklaus’ renowned design of the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol made the prestigious group. Opened in 1994 and a staple in global rankings, the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol was included in the 10 with such venerable names as Old Head in Ireland, and high-profile neighbors Cypress Point and Pebble Beach.
With seven holes fronting the turquoise-blue sea, the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol is the course that placed Los Cabos, the 20-mile corridor at the tip of Mexico’s Baja California Sur, squarely on the global golf map. The Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol is revered as one of the finest courses in Latin America and has consistently ranked as Mexico’s top layout. Like other layouts built in the 1990s and earlier, the club has responded to equipment advances by subtly altering the strategy on a number of holes, including recent renovations and redesigns of the oceanside par-3 sixth and seventh holes.
