Red Ledges’ Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course Set to Open

Globe’s leading design firm celebrates its 200th U.S. golf course with the July 4th weekend opening of Red Ledges in Utah

HEBER CITY, Utah- Nicklaus Design has become the world’s leading golf course design firm, with courses represented in 34 different countries and projects under development in 45 different countries. But as the nation is celebrating Independence Day on July 4th, Nicklaus Design will be celebrating its 200th golf course design in the United States, when Red Ledges, a private golf and four-season recreational community located in Heber City, opens its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. When the Golden Bear hits his inaugural tee shot Friday, it will represent a milestone for the firm he founded, and a company résumé that began 40 years ago this year with the opening of Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.

Red Ledges features 18 holes, each with a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains. Jack Nicklaus, one of the globe’s preeminent designers and the man Golf Inc. Magazine has named “Most Powerful Person in Golf” for five straight years, designed the 7,653-yard course to incorporate and accentuate the existing landscape.

“Since the topography of the Red Ledges area is so stunning and diverse, we were challenged to stay true to the Red Ledges vision by planning each hole around its natural surroundings,” said Jack Nicklaus. “We were able to nestle some holes around the famous sandstone ledges and situate other holes in juniper groves. I am delighted with how the course has turned out.”

“I am amazed that in just two years since the ground-breaking, Red Ledges will open what we believe will be the finest course in the West,” said Tony Burns, managing owner of Red Ledges and former Ryder Systems CEO. “We are thankful to our many partners, and especially to Jack Nicklaus, who have helped make our vision come to life and excited for our members to play the course earlier than expected.”

Red Ledges recently hired John Johnson as golf club general manager, Jon Paupore as head golf professional, and Courtney Goebel as assistant professional. The Red Ledges course is managed by Troon Golf, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing.

Red Ledges will introduce other golf amenities down the road, including a nine-hole Nicklaus Design short course, a Jim McLean Golf School, and a premier golf clubhouse.
