Royal Island, Bahamas, is growing up fast according to the developers. Phase one of construction is complete on the Preview Village consisting of three guest suites, a fitness facility and a restaurant. Road construction across the island, as well as operations and office infrastructure are progressing on-schedule and continue to be on-going. In mid-April, the initial clearing of the golf course was started for a working session by Jack Nicklaus. Additionally, Royal Island’s yacht facility at the Bluffs on Eleuthera, “the Dock House”, will be completed in the coming weeks. San Francisco-based SB Architects is leading the project’s design team alongside land planning firm EDSA, marina and coastal design consultant Moffatt & Nichol, and golf course design firm Nicklaus Design.

Royal Island, situated approximately 190 miles east of Miami and 4 miles westof Eleuthera, is comprised of over 430 acres of oceanfront and oceanview property throughout its 15 miles of coastline. The project’s amenities will include a five-star boutique hotel and spa, as well as many fine-dining and casual restaurants. A deep-water marina will house over 200 slips surrounded by a village center of shops, cafes, customs and immigration office, emergency services and a captains’ club. Beach clubs will be located throughout the property, and the entire eastern portion of Royal Island is devoted to the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club of the Bahamas. Major construction projects on the marina, hotel and golf course will commence late 2007, early 2008.

The luxury residential offerings are planned to include oceanfront and oceanview estate homesites; oceanfront and oceanview villas; and marina and harborview villas, townhomes and flats. “Every detail of the design and placement of the homes and amenities is being carefully considered to assimilate naturally into this island paradise. Royal Island will become known as the ultimate destination for those individuals looking to retreat to the most exclusive and private estates in the Bahamas,” said Maguire.

Royal Island is easily accessible by air via North Eleuthera International Airport’s (ELH) 6,000 foot runway and a 10-minute cruise by watercraft from Royal Island’s private Dock House on Eleuthera.
